I am a Canadian artist in Calgary, Alberta, working primarily with textiles. I’m curious, eccentric and just a little opinionated. Surrealist in thought, Fauvist at heart, eclectic, explorative and absurd, I use hand and machine techniques to illustrate idiosyncratic stories and integrate hand dyed and “found” fabrics in my work.I am learning to respectfully collect a history with stitch, incorporating meaningful text and a Slow Cloth philosophy, believing that personal expression is instinctual when you listen to yourself truthfully. I am fascinated by the workings of the human body, and the microscopic world, interpreting them in unconventional ways. As Kurt Vonnegut says: “I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can’t see from the center.”

Select pieces of my art is for sale in my webshop.

I offer on "FyberSpace the Shop" (link above) natural fabrics dyed with natural materials, sourced locally and used responsibly. My hope is that these one of a kind fabrics will inspire others to explore textile and mixed media arts with a personal and unique flavour. All of my prices include postage anywhere in the known world. If you have an idea you'd like to expand upon with one of my fabrics, please contact me--i may be able to do something more specific for you. Offerings are seasonal, depending on availability of fabric and dye types and methods. All fabrics have been washed and set as much as possible, but due to the nature of the dye and methods, silks may retain some creasing, and hand washing and gentle care is recommended for silk and cotton. Nothing is ever repeatable, so if you like it, grab it!

What mediums do you prefer to work in?
textiles, threads, paper, beads
Who are your favorite artists and why do they inspire you?
I admire the strength Judy Martin brings to her work, with simple shapes, minimal colour and basic stitching, creating very powerful work. Deb Lacativa's hand dyes, thread colour combinations and unconventional shapes are exciting, as are Jude Hill's story cloths using scraps and personal iconography. In machine work, i'm particularly inspired by Jackie Cardy's controlled but organic shapes and Melanie Testa's delicacy in subject matter and treatment.
What gives you inspiration?
The body, microscopic detail, colour, finding an image in something that seems abstract, poetry
