I was playing with some clay and trying some new techniques with ranger ink and mica powders. I thought I would share some of the beads I made. They have a lot of visual texture but the beads are as smooth as glass.

Pretty cool, - so are they wrapped around a cylinder of clay, or are they just folded? I'd love to see them without the glare. The pic doesn't show how intense the colors are, but as a polymer person myself, I can imagine what they look like in person. Pretty awesome- thanks for sharing. :-)

Thanks Debbie. The glare is a real pain. I must have taken a dozen shots trying to get one glare free. Maybe I should take some outside. I just folded the clay over a large needle and pressed the bottoms together. I pulled the needle out before baking. The backs of these beads look as good as the front.

Cool, that's what I figured. I have made beads like that , but not with micas and inks. I like to make a sheet of clay, then cover it with makume game, or thin cane slices, and cut out circles about 3/4 inch wide. I only did the folded beads for one line of necklaces that I made. They have all kinds of weird shapes. Maybe I can find a pic and show you what I mean. Don't hold your breath, it will probably be on my older slower computer.:-p As for the glare-have you tried using a light box? If you go to instuctables.com, I'll bet they have a tutorial on one that is cheaper than buying it at a store. I just use white sheets hung next to my objects, usually on the backs of chairs, with lamps shining through the sheets. Then when a picture is snapped, the light is all around the object, so the glare doesn't show. Well, I must confess, now I actually get my son to come over with his expensive photo equipment. Maybe some day I'll invest in a better camera, but he's only 3 blocks away. I just have to wait until he 'feels like it', lol. |

Thanks I'll have to go check that site out. Right now I work part time in a bead store and he lets me use his light box but I usually forget to take my stuff with me. Most of the time though I'm just to impatient to wait. |
