The end of October is one of the times I look forward to every year. A bunch of us from C&T go to the International Fall Quilt Market in Houston, Texas. The booths are colorful, informative, and innovative…and the exhibits are breathtaking and inspiring. The colors and textures were what drew me in and that is what I want to share with you today. There were buttons, and rick rack, paper flowers and felt balls. I loved the rough texture of the twisted yarns. The muted tones were so rich and I just couldn’t keep my hands from touching the whole bunch.
The glass buttons were cool to the touch and just beautiful. The painting and gold leaf just made them jump out and catch my eye.
Who could resist a skirt made from felt balls and paper towel tubes? I am definitely wearing one to next Market. I think I am going to have to take up a collection for the tubes.
I may have gone a bit crazy in the trims section. I couldn’t stop myself from shopping for treats for the gals back in the office.
The paper flowers caught my eye because they were in Jennifer Sampou’s booth for Robert Kaufman. This is Jen’s first time at Market in 5 years and her booth combines the rich colors and themes of Mexico with her on-target design for quilters everywhere.
The bright colors were in full force as you can see in Kaffe Fassett’s booth. The magentas, oranges, pinks and golds…and is that a spider on that man’s head? Well, it was Halloween, after all. The stripes and repeats inspired me with their simplicity.
Quilts on the show floor, quilts seen in the exhibit…they were all wonderful. Here is a 3-dimensional exhibit featuring fabric houses.
The hat house is by Laura Wasilowski and the multi-story house is by Judy Coates Perez. The entire feature was simply adorable and so enjoyable. It made me think about how many different types of places there are that we all call home. I believe that any place your heart is, is home.
