Looking around my house recently, I realized that I’m definitely “qualified” to work as an editor for C&T Publishing. You probably didn’t know it, but I have several PhDs. (Uh, huh.) Just browse through this post and you’ll see some of them . . . Projects half Done.
Above is the oldest of my UFOs (UnFinished Objects)…a cross-stitch alphabet sampler I started when my first daughter was a baby. She’s 23 now and the project has a permanent shrine on a shelf in my closet. That one I understand. I was a new mom and I underestimated the effect a baby would have on my time. Also, it was right around then that I started quilting. But what’s up now?
As I looked at all these WIPs (Works In Progress), I realized that they come from a sense of excitement I have with our books. As I work, I can hardly wait to make a project (or two) that I’m editing. Many of these I finish; but also, many are PAWs (Projects Awaiting Work).
Here’s my run-down from the oldest CPA (Craft Put Aside) to the most current.
Anelie Belden makes the most of the Dresden block in Thoroughly Modern Dresden. I plan to make this block into a clock. Someday.
From Blocks to Diamonds by Cheryl Malkowski, 8 of these diamonds together will make a star. I’ve made 2. This will be a queen-sized bed quilt. I had to start this one because, besides loving it, I wanted to experiment with the paper-less paper piecing method that Cheryl uses.
I started this bag from M’Liss Rae Hawley’s Precut Quilts because tech-editing the directions on paper was just not working. I needed hands-on verification (plus, I needed a tote). However, after I got started with the full-size bag, I realized it was going to take more time than I had (um, an hour). So I made a little one first (about 6″ x 7″) just to double-check the instructions.
I have a miniature chair collection, so appliquéing an armchair from Dream Chair Quilts by Alethea Ballard seemed like the logical next step. Little did I know the chair was destined to become a PIG (Project In a Grocery bag)!
See my earlier post “Recuperating” for more about this one, which was inspired by Allie Aller’s Crazy Quilting.
Gotta love hexagons! This was a summer hand-work project for my trip to Lake Champlain. At the time, I was editing New English Paper Piecing by Sue Daley.
Another in a long line of baby quilts, this is from Baby Times by Abbey Lane Quilts. There will be a center appliquéd on each flower. Notice that the print border is ruched. This CAD (Craft Almost Done) was pre-empted by the following Van Gogh quilt.
Six C&T staffers are collaborating on a second slice quilt that will be donated to the NAMTA Foundation.
Each of us is making a vertical section (a slice) of Van Gogh’s Wheat Field with Cypresses.
Btw, this Van Gogh slice is on my design wall over the top of one of my daughter’s quilts…
Her first PhD!
