January Vintage Valentine e-Swap - Valentines you'll want to make

A couple of week's ago we had our usual Monday #talkcrafts tweetchat. The topic was swaps. I heard a lot of ughs and "I don't do swaps" .... but then the topic turned to e-swaps. So, I'm taking the ideas for the e-swap and making it the first of the new year. Here's how it's going to work.

Valentines

I've chosen this image from Google Images and I want everyone who participates to create something based on this image. It can be in any medium, but it must be inspired by this vintage valanetine.

Then, I would like you to create a tutorial on how you made it and post it on The Hive, adding it to the Vintage Valentine e-Swap group. If it's a digital image (that is not infringing on the likely copywright of this piece) then we would like it to be offered as a free download to our members.

I will create the group after the holidays & before New Years for you to add your posts. All posts smust be in by January 31st. The top 10 posts with the most number of "likes" on February 10th will all get a special valentine from me (and 250 extra points). Finally, we'll appoint a guest judge and select the winning piece (or tutorial) from the top 10 and they'll earn a special Hive prize!!

Because we really want to make this about things other's can make - giving them something fun to create for Valentines Day, the final winner will be determined not only on how well they interpreted the piece but whether it allows other members to share their fun and recreate the piece.

I can't wait to see who's in and what you come up with!!

Melissa, For those of us who have never participated in something like this before, please explain the particulars of basing our creations on the vintage valentine image a little more in depth. My specific question: Do we need to use the actual image you have provided in this post? Thank you!!!

Yay Cyn & Connie - I can't wait to see what you do!!

Victoria - no, you don't need to use the image, they just have to kind of remind you of this piece. For example, you could do a needlepoint felted blue heart that says "why knot" like the image above... or you could do a red and white heart with similar wording or text as the above one does. It really only has to be loosely based on this design. Whatever it inspires you to create it what it's about....

Who can possible think about Valentines Day, we've not even had Christmas or New Years yet. I focus on one holiday at a time, Feb. is wayyyyyyyy off my radar, so far away. I do like though that you're always thinking of new things for us here on The Hive...just need to slow down your brain and get it on my calendar, lol.

Sandy - I know - it's just that if we waited until February, that wouldn't give many people enough time to create - especially since many have time off during the holidays.

Cindy - haha! love the pun! You've got 6 weeks, more or less... I'm just getting everyone to put on their thinking caps!

Lyneen - Yes, it will stay up here all through January since it's a Hive sponsored event.

Barbara - the image is linked from the internet and I'm sure has it's own copyrights. I did not design it and it is linked to its original internet source. The project should be BASED ON the image, but not violate any copyright issues. I hope that makes sense.

I'm so excited to see what everyone comes up with!! I've already started thinking up the valentines that I'm sending out to the top 10!

I have written up a tutorial for a little Valentine Stitched book - but need some help to get it into my blog.

I have written it in Word and want it to come out looking like it does on the screen . Anyone know how I do that please.

I am perhaps being stupid but it is very confusing.

I have tried to contact Melissa on her contact bit and also tried to send email to the main creating the hive contact form abut it says

whoops something has gone wrong. So am trying here.

I am having trouble importing my last blog post

I click on the settings button and it says that 9 blog posts have been imported but nothing happens.
It has always been okay before but now doesn't seem to want to do it.
The post is a tutorial intended for the Valentines e swap thread so I would like it be on the Hive.
Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

There is a problem with email notifications right now and some peoples blog might not be importing. Just hang in there til it gets sorted out.

I went directly to your blog and read the tutorial and it was great, hopefully it'll come thru soon.

Thanks Jennifer. I know there has been a lot going on with the problems lately and think its all to do with that. I don't want to miss the 31st Jan deadline for this challenge. I wonder if others are having similar problems with importing their blogs too. Not sure why I can't email Melissa.

The tutorial took a lot of working out and time to do,glad that you like it , thank you for looking. How is yours coming along?

I started something but it was going to be too complicated for someone else to try to make it so I scrapped that idea and tried to start again but time got away from me. I doubt I'll get it done. So sorry to bow out Melissa!

Hey everyone... REALLY sorry I've been absent. John & I went to CHA, then I was one of the keynote speakers at the Real Eatate Staging Assoviation in Vegas (staging is my primary business & what pays the bills - aside from a johns job). I got home a few days ago & have been back in bed sick since. If you don't know, I got VERY sick last year & now I'm having issues & have to stay in bed & try not to work. I got antibiotics today & will try to catch up on all of this in a couple days.
