What Style are You?

Proper lighting is crucial to creating a complete look to a space, no matter what the function.  Lighting can be used to emphasize and enhance a feature or you can dramatize or minimize the furnishings, as you can with colour and pattern.

So when it comes to lighting  for your space what style are you?

Colonial: is a simple uncomplicated style, also known asearly American.  Features include hurricane shades that resemble oil lamps, and emphasis on polished and antique brass elements

Crystal lighting

Crystal: is a popular formal design made with fine cut and polished lead crystals.  This type of fixture is unequaled for sparkle and brilliance.

Transititional: represents a clever mix of traditional and contemporary styles and is designed to fit into either decor.  Fixtures  utilize beveled glass as a key element

Neoclassical: is a formal yet simple style that deftly balances intricate architecture interest with a minimum of elements.

Victorian: is a popular period style from the latter part of the 19th century.  It is characterized by elaborately ornate detailing in the arms and columns.  The shades are usually stained etched glass and “tulip” shaped.

Eurostyle: is a sleek, clean linear look with brightly coloured finishes and metals, like chrome, pewter and brass

Probably a real mix.  In general I dislike overhead lights and prefer table lamps.  I really dislike the crystals  wayyyyyyyyyyy over the top, gaudy to my way of thinking.  Not a fan of anything modern, to me it's cold and univiting.  About the only room I actually turn on the overhead light in is the kitchen.

I think it's pretty common to be a mix of styles, particular the older we get.  We pick up things we like from previous trends and they sort of stick...

I am not a minimalist, just pile on the decoration and I am happy.

Interesting question as I don't see the "style" most sites like DYInetwork label me. I'm considered Country French by all the home decor tests; I really like vintage and lean towards Victorian. I've found some incredibly romantic light fixtures at yard sales, and am hoping to incorporate them in my little cottage in Oregon. There will be a mix of styles as I have an interesting collection of lamps and fixtures. One of my best friends is always wondering where i'm going with color and so on, but is pleasantly surprised at the results. You know what I've found is that I have been able to find paintings, or create them, and furniture as well as linens and so on that seem to fit with my idea of what I want my little place to look like, and as hubby proudly states, all at yard sales or thrift stores. Hopefully, in the end, it will all come together to create a pleasing and comfortable place that's not too cluttered, and feels like home to anyone who stops by.
