Today's Reason to Celebrate

January 26, 2012 is

National Peanut Brittle Day

Peanut brittle is a delicious dessert to eat but it can be very tricky to make. The key to making the perfect brittle is to use a candy thermometer. This will ensure that the candy heats up at the proper temperature. Another important factor that can affect the taste of peanut brittle is the weather. Brittle should not be made on a humid day because the candy will be too soft to hold its shape.
Brittle was one of the first types of candy ever made. It is believed that the Irish loved to eat sugar-coated peanuts as a delicious treat. Over time, they also began to add syrup to the peanuts -- creating the first peanut brittle. Recipes for peanut brittle began to appear in American cookbooks during the 19th century.
To celebrate National Peanut Brittle Day, try making your own or get some at your favorite candy shop!
