Etsy vs Artfire

Which do u like better?

its a mixed bag for me. i have both. i'm a basic member on artfire. i'd get lost with all those added features with pro membership.  I like how Artfire has no listing or selling fees, well no fees whats so ever. Etsy is 20 cents a listing....  they have chat rooms and an ok forum. Artfire has pod cast once a week where the creators talk about business news conserning anything we crafters need to know.  Dont need to be pro to make a treasury on Etsy... tho most are never seen other than to the people that are in the treasury.

do you have any thoughts about either site? or do u know of a better site...... i'd love to know :)

I sell on both and like etsy better, but I get a few sales on artfire. The main thing I don't like about artfire is all of the adds and junk on the store pages it looks so cluttered. My favorite place hands down is 1000markets. The site is so beautiful clean and professional and I have done well there. Of course no one is doing as well as they used to with the bad economy!!!......katy

I'm just setting up an Etsy shop.  You've given me food for thought though!

I have an Etsy store and am in the process of trying out a basic account on Artfire. It would be nice not to have fees for listing and sales, but I do think that $15 is pricey unless you are seeing a lot of sales.

Have not heard of 1000markets? What about Ebay... seems like a bunch of crafters/artists here are using that as a tool as well.

I listed something on Ebay one time.... the item did not sell. and i had to pay the listing fee. but to each their own.  u have to think about the thousands of other items on that site. are u willing to pay what ever the fee to make a shop. they know how to rack up the cost to post one lil item.

Checked out 1000markets.com... and signed up. I plan on working on my "virtual storefronts" this weekend to get them back up and running. Thanks for the link, it looks like a great venue and it is affiliated with amazon.com

I do like the very clean, crisp design of the site... we shall see what happens. Regardless, thanks for the compliment. :)

I think Etsy is much more crowded than it used to be back when I first found it in '06

It's hard to get noticed there-your listings get buried so fast! I've been trying eBay for vintage but I have never tried to sell anything handmade.

I agree with u Sadie. Especially in the forums, its so crowed there... i post something and a minute later 10 more people have posted something and what ever i posted is never seen.

I used to hang out in the forums a lot but here is the thing, there are people that seriously are in the forums all day long and they act like they run the place-they create drama and cause fights and things like that. I discovered that staying away from the forums was more beneficial to my blood pressure. LOL

I like etsy the best. I took a look at artfire and noticed that it looked too spamy with all the ads and stuff. I personally do not think 20 cents per listing on etsy is a big deal, I dont mind paying that for a nice clean site. :) I like to go into the chat rooms on etsy. I do agree about the forum posts moving along too fast, but what can you do. I still have used them and gotten help and/or advice through them :)

We sell on Etsy, and like it.  I mostly stay away from the forums, too much drama.  I spend a lot of time online promoting our shop thru blogging, teams, twitter, facebook, and anywhere else I can.  Google has finally found our shop and crawls it even though it's not syndicated yet.  I never heard of 1000markets, and checked it out, but they charge almost twice as much as etys.  And these days, every penny counts.

love all the feedback on this topic as it has been on my mind. I have been working hard on new craft items, illustrations and paintings with the thought of getting my Etsy store back and running but also trying out a Basic art fire store. The monthly fee there still seems high to me.
