Hello everyone and welcome to By Way of Salem. A place for Wicked Whimsies and Charming Prims!

I'm Jeannine, the creator and artist. I've been an artist for over 25 years officially, and unoffically since I got my first box of Crayola Crayons 64 box. My favorite characters to create are witches, hags, and snowmen. My mediums are paperclay, polymer clay, and papier mache. My true love is painting. I use mostly acrylics, but dabble a bit in watercolors too. I also enjoy stitching, quilting, soft sculptures, making cards, tole painting, altered art, and junk collecting. You can find me at local craft shows either participating or buying. My styles range from a bit quirky to primitive but I also love French country, cottage, or just about anything that makes me smile. Oh and I love the Munsters too! Since Halloween has always been my favorite holiday, By Way of Salem was born. I hope you come along with me on my crazy journey!

What mediums do you prefer to work in?
My sculptures are mostly from paper clay, however I also use polymer clay and papier mache. It depends on what I'm trying to achieve.
Most of my paintings, whether on canvas or on other surfaces, are done in acrylics. I love the blendability as well as the drying time. I do on occasion dabble in watercolors as well.
My newest love is paper! I love to incorporate paper cuttings into my canvas creations. I've been very happy with the outcome of my designs using various papers.
Who are your favorite artists and why do they inspire you?
There are so many! I love Susan Faye and her wonderful animal watercolors she creates. Dan DiPaolo is one of my all-time favorites as well. Gail Lackey's dolls are amazing. Kim Hardt, Noodle and Lou, Robin Davis, David - Chicken Lips, and SO many more!
What gives you inspiration?
The seasons; especially Fall because I love Halloween. Silly things like The Munsters or The Great Pumpkin. Also watching Martha Stewart. She's got so many great ideas. Going into craft stores, reading Somerset or Stampington's magazines, Where Women Create, Cloth Paper Scissors, Studios, and the list goes on and on...
