What mediums do you prefer to work in?
In working with paints I love the acrylics for my rag cloth dolls or if I am painting on fabric the acrylics work best for me. When making my dolls I love muslin and drill fabrics best, for clothing I love cotton fabrics. In creating my quilts I love to use all kinds of fabrics, and recycled fabrics such as cutting up an old shirt, jacket, sweaters and creating quilts or animals, and dolls. My animals are from berber, felt, fleece and craft felt.
Who are your favorite artists and why do they inspire you?
My greatest influence was my high school teacher who liked how I used my imagination for different projects. Then I had a special art teacher I went to after school Mrs Alice Hansen who taught me lots about oils, acrylics, I think this is how I found acrylics. Greytek was another artist who influenced me, use the use of pencil and how he created some very interesting old time farm scenes by the use of pencil in showing texture with just the use of pencil.
What gives you inspiration?
This will seem silly but the colors and texture of fabric, an example is I had scraps of this blue shiny course fabric and I knew it had to be the mermaid's tail in a quilt I did, but I think its my ability to cartoon that makes me most inspired, I will sit down and draw out a scene for an idea for a wall hanging quilt and then begin whacking it out. The Holidays to really inspire me, my favorite is Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter and those smaller holidays.
