I consider myself lucky that I have a rich crafting ancestry. My great-grandmother was a fantastic knitter, crocheter, tatter and embroiderer. My grandmother carried on the crocheting and also was an avid sewer. My mother was very crafty. She crocheted, did needlepoint, sewed, did macrame and it seemed like any new craft that came along she tried at least once. My mom encouraged my brother and me to be creative and crafty. She would set us up on inclement days during the summer with crafts to keep us busy. I am full of crafty genes! My first love is knitting. I also enjoy crocheting, spinning my own yarns, dying yarn, sewing and scrapbooking. I have dabbled with candle making, wet felting, felting soap, needle felting, tatting, macrame, cross-stitch, basket weaving and many other crafts that I can't remember. I was able to play around with a rigid heddle loom this past summer and fell in love. I am currently saving my pennies so that I can purchase a rigid heddle loom of my very own. I would love to weave fabrics with my handspun yarn. Fiber arts are my addiction though and I hope to build a successful business around this addiction.
What mediums do you prefer to work in?
I love working with natural fibers, especially alpaca and wool. But I can be found knitting and designing with all types of fibers.
Where do you sell items locally or nationally?
My patterns are available worldwide via Ravelry (www.ravelry.com), my website (www.knitamazoo.com), Patternfish (www.patternfish.com) and Craftsy (www.craftsy.com). I also have an Etsy Shop where I not only sell my patterns, but handspun yarns and handwoven items.
What gives you inspiration?
I find inspiration in a variety of places. Patterns and colors in nature; garments I see in retail stores, movies or tv; pictures in magazines; stitch patterns; and the yarn itself will speak to me.
