What mediums do you prefer to work in?
I usually work in silver and I use gold to accent some jewelry pieces (when I can afford it), but also work in copper and wood for my sculpted art. I work with hand cut cabochons of many varieties, I usually cut my own.
Who are your favorite artists and why do they inspire you?
My favorite artists are personal choices: Rob Wiengartner (my jewelry mentor), Allen Eckman (my brother who also happens to be the best cast paper sculptor in the known world), his wife Patty Tenneboe-Eckman (sculptor and great south western painter). Each inspires me to try to outdo them, each has great passion for their work.
What gives you inspiration?
I fine inspiration from many sources: nature, geology (I love what the earth, heat and pressure does to minerals), I love to read and find inspiration from books, but mostly I'm inspired by the cabochons themselves; my designs are built to accommodate the beauty of the gemstones. That is why I enjoy cutting stones, the creative freedom it provides.
