My name is Malissa Melrose. I live in the great big state of Texas. I have been surrounded by arts, crafts, and creativity my whole life. I have been creating for as long as I can remember. I started sculpting with polymer clay in the summer of 2007 and a couple of months later I discovered paperclay and fell in love with the look, feel, and texture of it. I love to sculpt pieces with a timeworn feel to them. Sculpting is not my only passion, however. I love Mixed Media and Altered Art, making primitives, making fun, funky felt creations, painting in oil pastels and acrylics, and any other type of art or craft I stumble on. I make everything with my own hands. I never use molds and I draw my own patterns for my sewing projects. I love to hear from you so feel free to e-mail me with any questions or comments you have and follow me on facebook or my blog to find out the latest news!
What mediums do you prefer to work in?
I love to work in many different mediums! I love paint, paper, clay, canvas, altering found objects or incorporating old elements into a new design.
Who are your favorite artists and why do they inspire you?
I love many different kinds of art and many artists, so it is hard to narrow it down. Van Gogh's use of bold colors inspire me, Da Vinci's use of science and art inspire me, Tim Burton's dark whimsical characters and scenery, and many others!
What gives you inspiration?
The colors and texures of the art of ancient Greece and Rome, the mix of femine and gothic from the Victorian era, vintage images, Jane Austen, vintage Holiday folk art, the traditions of my childhood, surrounding myself with things, sounds, and people that I love, and especially the encouragement of my absolute biggest fan, my little boy who thinks Mommy is the best artist ever!
