The Granite State Helping the Homeless
Behind door #1...we have 31 hats, and pair of slippers, but wait..........there's more.
The chat from the price is right is running through my head, and one of those other TV game shows. Back though to the business at hand. Rose M. from the state of New Hampshire, The Granite State (you might have remember that nick name, as it was recently discussed); our newest pair of helping hands sent 2 stuffed boxes of goodies. Her 2nd donation contains 6 pairs of mittens, another pair of slippers, 6 scarves, and 35 cotton washcloths. Look at all the great colors and selection in her cotton washcloths.

Many thanks Rose M, we're thrilled to have you join us here on Bridge and Beyond; and look forward to seeing you often. What a wonderful and thoughtful donation. Please keep up the good work.

Awesome Donation from Puerto Rico
Look at these fabulous warm colors Damaris choose for her scarves. These are beautifully crocheted, very nice and soft, and a wonderful size. Not only do they look warm because of the color, they are warm, by design too! AND..you all know how I love team work and believe we couldn't get the job at hand done without it. Damaris's friend Nancy O. paid the postage all the way from Puerto Rico so these 2 scarves could be donated to Ohio's Homeless and others in need.

Thank you Damaris for your on going support of our cause and for enlisting the help of your friend Nancy, who's helped us before with donations. And thank you Nancy, hope to see you both here on Bridge and Beyond often.

Gray Feather and Fan

Not much of a work in progress, I grant you....but a start. Actually there's more on the needles then it appears since it's all curling up. I may need to purchase a longer needle. Think this is a 34? Oophs, just looked it says it's a 40, but I don't think it measured that when I was checking it the other day. Expected things not to be so gathered on the needles. It's a ChiaoGoo lace needle size 9. Knitted worsted weight on the needles with sorta almost a chunky in the various variegated you see. The variegated is Sirdar tweed effect chunky. It's not as chunky as some, and the gray is a Caron Wintuk...heavier then most worsted weight...so they seem almost the same. The Sirdar is a blend, but is machine washable like the gray. These skein only have just over 80 yards, and each one is a different tweed; but they all blend nicely with this shade of gray. The Sirdar Tweeds were donated, so am hopeful this with my gray will make a nice afghan. Making a Feather and Fan Afghan to donate to ,my charity blog, Bridge and Beyond for The Homeless Families Foundation. The families are given an afghan in their welcome pack when they move from the various shelters to permanent housing. Wanted to show you a close up of my cute little lambs...gifted stitch markers.

Aren't they cute! WIPW badges and links in sidebar

Golf anyone?

There are many who might say Golf is Hilton Head's middle name. They think of golf immediately when they think of Hilton Head. While others might think Beach. I think History, Civil War, Good Food, and more. For some good background on all Hilton Head has to offer, see these two post: Meanwhile, back to golf. There are 26 golf courses on The Island with many more nearby. 20 of those 26 are championship courses. The Island, Hilton Head isn't all that large measuring 56 square miles, so 26 golf courses is Alot! That many courses gives you much to choice from. There are golf packages sometimes associated with a specific hotel or timeshare; there are packages which group certain courses together also. These views are from the top of The Harbour Town Light House viewing The famous Harbour Town Golf Links Course where the prestigious Heritage Classic takes place. The course is right next to the beach and the ocean, on land formerly a plantation. A plantation owned by The Lawton Family. A plantation that had owned slaves. Following the beautiful golf course along the tree line on the left, and you'll find a graveyard presumed to be mostly slaves, or freed slaves and their descendants. The Lawton Plantation then Stables has been moved to a new location within Sea Pines Plantation. The new and the old world with 2 vastly different uses. It hasn't been a golf course all that long. I've read conflicting information about when the course was opened, one article said in 1969 and one in 1967. The beautiful course offers views such as this sailing boat, and is open to the public. I'm not a golfer, though hubby is he's not played this course; but perhaps on another trip he will. Enjoy the present, come and enjoy and play; but please remember and honor the past. They had a heavy burden and deserve our remembrance.

Donations from The Golden State
Thank you Tracey for this thoughtful donation of yarn. I may make an afghan with some of it, I'm seeing an image in my mind....then again, there's enough to make some wonderful warm hats and scarves as well, and some cotton washcloths from the cotton. Rest assured it will get put to good use. Thanks so much, it's great to see you again here on Bridge and Beyond.

Tracey hails from the state of California, The Golden State. First thing that popped into my head when I looked that up was the gold rush. According to the description that is only part of the reason it has that nickname. They referred to the prominence of golden poppies that populate the state in spring. Gotta say that was surprise, I've been to California on vacation a number of times and have never seen a golden poppy, but...perhaps I've been there at the wrong time. The other reason it's called that of course...The Golden Gate Bridge.

Donations from The Granite State
Maureen, our newest pair of helping hands hails from the state of New Hampshire, known as The Granite State. In it's past it had a huge industry in quarrying Granite. Maureen, we're thrilled to have you and your skillful hands join us with your crocheted donations of 12 washcloths and 14 rain poncho's. Both are greatly appreciated. Hope to see you here often on Bridge and Beyond. You might know Maureen as Warrior Librarian from RAV where she heads a group called Crochet for Charity.

I love how nicely sized your cotton cloths are, and thanks so much for making some for the men folk with the browns. Please keep up the good work.

Harbour Town

Beautiful landscape, and The Lighthouse off in the distance. This is the view I had from the sidewalks edge from my accommodations at The Heritage Club. A short walk or ride on a bike through this path and you're smack dab in the middle of the shopping and dining area of Harbour Town. crazy crabOne of the many restaurants. There are many, and most are opened both in and off season. Some have both inside and outside seating, many have great views. There's casual as well as more up scale dining options. Harbour Town Grill, C's, Harbour Town Bakery & Cafe, Quarterdeck to name a few. Want to combine dinner and entertainment, schedule a sunset dinner cruise on The Spirit of Harbour Town. dog in boatEnjoy the many sites as you walk, ride or sit and enjoy. Watch the boats, the fishermen, the golfers off in a distance. In season there are many activities such as The Junior Golfer's Program, Ghost Stories, and free concerts by Gregg Russell to enjoy in Harbour Town. This particular scene made me think of Captain John and his Salty Dog. (if you missed that post, click here). Plenty of beautiful homes, condo's and ships to view. Lots of shopping options too. Another famous photo opt, probably almost as notable as The Lighthouse is this statue, "Out to Lunch", by J. Seward Johnson installed in 1975. Amongst the beautiful scenery are rows of rocking chairs where you can just sit and enjoy the sites. On trip is not enough. In fact, I've been to Harbour Town on 3 different vacations, and am looking forward to a return trip.

Today is Sunday

Today is Sunday, you know what that means?

We're gonna have a quest today,

Sweep out the cobwebs

So the welcome can be seen.

Actually believe it was Tuesday, quest star day I'm thinking about, and am remembering bits of pieces of the song The Mouseketeers used to sing. The "real" Mouseketters that is. And give out a hip ho ray, and wiggle your ears, like good mouseketeers cause Tuesday is Quest Star Day. Anyone else as old as dirt, like me and remember it? The did a dance with brooms in hand and some part of it was opening and closing doors...I hear the music and see it happening on the old black and white bubble t.v....in my mind saying...sing songy Today is Sunday and this silly old thing popped into my head. lol

It's Sunday and what that really means is, time to update the Year of Projects listing and do some blog visiting. It's been a very hectic week, so very little knitting has been done. I did manage to finish another cotton washcloth (posted it on FOF, scroll back 1 post to view it). I started a 2nd one with the left over cotton (forgot I wanted to weigh what I had left to determine if I had enough), eye balling the cloth and what I have left, I think I need to add another color in the middle and maybe have enough of the cotton to end with. Gonna play through. This isn't on my list, in fact the last several projects haven't been.

So, I'm making a change to my list...I'm deleting learning to make socks from my goals list. Truth is...I'm simply not going to do it, others things need my attention. I do think I'll slid it on to next years list though. AND, the longest work in project ever......Candy Corn Ghan, might meet the same fate. I'm just not feeling the love. However, for the time being am leaving it in limbo, in that I'm not yet removing it from the list.

Officially that would be the last specific item on my list; but...the afghans I assemble for Bridge and Beyond is continuous so that really never gets done. I'm having some indecision, jump in please and thanks with your opinions. I have lots of yarn, there is no good reason to buy more, so try always to use the yarn on hand when I assemble. In the thinking stage  on above ghans. First one I'm calling Sand Box, the 2nd one Retro. I have lots of this yarn. brown variegated yarnI have a bit less then in the picture, as some was given away in the last contest on Bridge and Beyond; but certainly enough to edge and join either, perhaps even both. Does it work? I don't want to purchase dark brown or turquoise and don't have enough to do retro in those colors...and can't quite decide if it would work better on Sand Box?

Happy Sunday, Year of Projects tab has full list. Badge and url in right sidebar. Am beginning to formulate next years, as this year officially ends June 30th.

A Donation and Party Time!
A donation and a party! That's right folks. These beautiful crocheted donations comes from my old high school friend, Joy. You've seen me post how we re-connected thanks to Facebook. She recently was in town and so I collected up about 30 folks from our class and we had a mini reunion, a party! What fun everyone had. Here we are having margaritas and telling stories when Joy walks in with this big bag of goodies to donate to Bridge and Beyond.

We had a wonderful time catching up, it's been lots of years since we've seen each other. Sadly, I was too sick to go to the last reunion which was our 40th....3 years ago. True...we'll soon be kicking in high gear to find some more folks to plan for the next reunion.

Thank you Joy for your thoughtful donation of 16 hats, and 5 scarves (3 matching sets) to help the homeless in Ohio. Joy hails from The State of Delaware. Interestedly, Delaware has been given many nicknames. Thomas Jefferson gave it the nickname of The Diamond State, due to it's location on the eastern shore a "jewel" among states. It's also been known as The Small Wonder...no explanation needed there, lol. However, in 2002 it was "officially" given the nickname of The First State..........why? Because it was the first state to ratify The US Constitution.
