Lucky in love, and living near Nat. Parks (Everglades, Grand Canyon, Blue Ridge Parkway, Acadia). We now live in Black Mountain, NC after spending 10 years in Bar Harbor, ME.  We were able to keep our house there by selling our vacation rental business--please check out my painting prowess (and book a week for a most outstanding vacation) at www.derbylanecottages.com.  I had about 6 months to transform a plain vanilla, 150 year old duplex into an inviting and interesting set of houses.  It was a blast.  We ran it for 5 summers and then sold it to a young couple who will be your hosts on your Maine journey.

We have lived all around the country, but Bar Harbor is my favorite home, and one we will retire to some day.

I have been doing art pretty much my whole life, but I also have battled clinical depression since I was 15. In 2010, I entered a program that finally got my medication in order, and (music starts) "I can see clearly now, the insane is gone, (boom daca boom daca) all of my bad feelings have disappeared..."

So, I have set 2011 as my birth year; I plan to polish my work, market my work, and hopefully have some success at selling such work, or at least learn where I am going wrong, so I can find the right combination of beads and mojo to reach that success.

I love so many crafts, and have so little time to do them.  I am concentrating on beading now, because, like cross-stitch, it satisfies my desire to create some art bit by tiny bit until the big picture comes through and surprises me.  I love to beach comb, and find such wonderful treasures (pouinds and pounds of them), and wish I could put at least 23 hours a day into creating with and for them, but alas, my family insists I be a part of it. But my fingers itch to be sticky, so I may furlough into ATCs later in the Spring on Swap-Bot or here, if there is a venue...I also love to sit on my front porch and throw pots (I'll leave you with that visual) once the weather turns nice.

So, usually, around now p.m., I have to close up shop and start the long commute to my beloved family: through the livingroom and kitchen (I have to detour there for the noisome reason that my family expects to eat), and will settle in the family room for an hour of Glee or whatnot.  But now, I think I will start a blog, so I can be with them and still do something crafty--besides knitting, stitching, or whatever else I pick up--I love to write, as well.

I look forward to participating in this hive; thanks for letting me have a cell.

This is on the big Island in Hawaii. I thought it very apropos!

What mediums do you prefer to work in?
Free-form bead stitching, Japanese seed beads, pearls, crystals, sea shells, sea glass, sea china, beach stones. Hard-fire clay, glazes. Paper, ephemera, stamps. Needlz and thredz. Yarn, fabric, embroidery thread.
Who are your favorite artists and why do they inspire you?
Laura McCabe! Her designs using odd objects are fascinating. Diane Fitzgerald--my 2011 goal is to master 3-D beadweaving. Carol Wilcox Wells (I envy your mountaintop). All the tireless artists whose work I ogle at Asheville's myriad galleries. Lisa Hall of NE Harbor, ME-she inspired me to use sea glass as jewelry components. The wonderful young woman who once owned a bead shop in Bar Harbor-she first introduced me to using seed beads as sculpture.
After a couple of months on the 'Hive, I have been introduced to the great artists who reside here; they have inspired me, and challenged me to step up my game!
What gives you inspiration?
The beaches on Mt. Desert Island. Antique design-as seen at Woodlawn (The Black House) in Ellsworth, ME. Old things of any type or condition-things people, now long gone, have used, re-used, and used some more. Vintage patterns, and production methods. Re-purposed items. Found objects. Anything quirky, including people!
